I should point out I'm not in anyway 'media' - I'm not paid to get the overall story, it's purely a blog post with my observations of what I saw/went through that day, most of which was spent in Tesco car park, hence the slant towards that as it is what I saw. If you have issues with how the media have represented things then do take that up with them.

I should add the highways agency (but I believe it comes under Council control) re: traffic management on the day, good point. I have no idea if the PCSO's were around at all so cannot comment as to what they did/did not do.

I think whilst on a few points we agree, we may just have to agree to disagree on others.

I am not staff for one, I know staff and see how upset some of them were on the day, all the media including Jan state Tesco Tesco Tesco at no point does anyone mention anyone else other than "Other store" It is not Tesco retail park so why hasn't it been sold to all as wrekin retail park suffer severe congestion. it is not fair to single one retailer out over another. Tesco staff were abused and run over, pushed cars that were stuck and they did attend the bottom of the wrekin retail park to advise customers it was 3 hours to get off, they were the only retailer to offer free tea and coffee no other stores did this.
The police were tied up with serious accidents. Where was the highways agency's why hasn't Jan mentioned the lack of them on the main roads. Where were the PCSO's from wellington they are community support officers yet on any other saturday you see them on the park. Where were they that day why hasn't Jan mentioned that.
staff have taken it personal I know I shop there weekly and have done for 10 years. Their customer service is fantastic in my belief yet Jan has said they walked around doing nothing and even swore at her. Jan has blogged so much and its opinion that is going to upset some people. Perhaps I was harsh so Jan this is a public apology if you believe i was abusive but I am entitled to an opinion as you are. Clearly you know her so why not take the time to go see the staff that were affected and get there thoughts and feelings and see the whole picture not just your friends.

I think the word 'misinterpretation' fits here, but appreciate your follow up points.

I would say I was stuck in Tesco car park for over 3 hours, not anywhere else on the retail park - had I been stuck elsewhere a lot of my comments would have been about where I was stuck - in this case, it was Tesco. I have no idea what is was like in other areas of the retail park as I wasn't stuck there. Naturally therefore the theme of what I say will mention Tesco, can you see that?

And I stand by my comment that I have not stated or abused staff, the quotes above reflect what I saw, that's fact and observations, not slating. I can't control how you interpret it.

Lol you have not been abused and the following are your own quotes. So please take the time to read my final thoughts at the bottom.
Quote
"I am not holding Tesco responsible"
Quote!
As I enter the Tesco car park at the bottom of the Retail Park, I note it is almost full and getting gridlocked, again nothing I haven’t seen before here.

Quote

I call the Tesco store (obviously I can’t talk to the store itself, god forbid, it’s a regional customer service centre) and advise them to stop traffic coming into the Tesco car park due to the gridlock. I’m promised this will be passed on to the store immediately and the man I spoke to was perfectly polite and helpful.

Quote

For the next 90 minutes I move about 25 metres and I see 2, and finally 4, Tesco staff in the car park, they were doing a lot of chatting, moved a few bollards and that was all I saw. The staff did not talk to people trapped in their cars, or suggest they go back in the store, or in fact, anything.

Quote

I, and a few other people trapped in the car park, contact our brilliant local radio (@BBCShropshire) to let them know to tell listeners to avoid the Wrekin Retail Park area at all costs. As far as I heard/am aware, Tesco, or any of the other stores, did not – too busy at the tills?.

Quote

I find and contact the Tesco twitter customer service account, @UKTesco, to suggest there was a lack of contingency planning.

Quote

4 intermittent staff who clearly had no plan to what they were doing (and 1 of whom felt the need to swear at me when I didn’t move my car forward 20cm instantly – to be fair had I been in his shoes, I may have done the same).

Quote

I don’t know if Tesco had any legal duty of care to make sure those stuck were ok, but surely there is a moral duty of care - would it have been so hard during the 3 hours that I, and many others, were within their car park to send a member of staff to each car, let them know there was an accident blocking the exit, that they could park if safe to do so and get a drink in the cafe, or better still take drinks out to those who couldn’t leave their cars? Is customer service totally dead at Tesco – sadly, I think so

Quote

I’m not pointing the finger of blame entirely at Tesco; however, ineffective/non-existent emergency planning by Tesco had a snowball effect. Everyone local knows that car park is a total bottleneck, I find it incredulous that Tesco do not have a plan in place for such a situation.

Quote

I really hope the powers at be at Tesco read this, this isn’t a rant, I’m actually trying to help to ensure this can never happen again. I also hope Tesco apologises.

Quote

Finally Tesco, if anyone trapped there yesterday actually still wants to shop at Tesco in the future, compensation for them would be more than appropriate.

You see these are all your words you may have used the phrase other stores but Tesco is the only one you have named!

You have slated staff as ive re pasted your quotes above you claim you haven't.

Sorry i stated earlier ask for refunds what I actually meant was compensation! Why? It was the snow that caused the issue.
All the quotes above are your written words like one of your blogs states If your going to stick your head above the parapet your going to get shot at!

Oh and did I mention its not Tesco retail park! Nor is it asda homebase matalan etc... but I didn't see any of their staff out! Did you?

So look no rudeness or abuse only true words and opinion like you had! Also sorry you dont have advertisements on your blog. Just your own buisness! Nuff said

Annon you clearly have completely misread Jan's blog, comments and character for that matter! It is clear throughout the posts that blame is not aimed at Tesco staff and empathy is shown for you. If the access road is high on the agenda for this particular store then surely this incident should be embraced and seen as a prime opportunity for the powers that be to address the situation with the council. Your above comment and its tone alone are far more damaging for brand Tesco, as you say, the staff are Tesco!

I've only approved this comment so others can make up their own mind as to what you have to say.

Sadly, you clearly haven't read my blog posts fully, I am not holding Tesco solely to blame, that is merely where I was stuck for over 3 of the 4 hours it took me to get home - you are simply looking to vent, I hope you feel better. Any more rudeness or abuse and I'll have to block further comments I'm afraid.

I will be sending letters to all affected parties, not just Tesco (as stated in my blogs). I'm also very sympathetic with what the staff faced, again as I state in my blog. Oh and I've not told anyone to seek a refund, not sure where you read that, certainly not on my blog.

And I do not advertise on my site, I'm trying to raise awareness of a very trying situation for many, not promote my blog. Anyone who knows me would back that up.

I would finally kindly request that you don't throw accusations as to my character at me, you do not know me.

Oh dear.

Ive done my best to keep my mouth closed while you've been blogging away for the last week about how crap Tesco is and how the staff did nothing when the snow came down and how it could have been handled so much better and tesco this tesco that blaa blaa bleat bleat. So lets look at some little known facts aye shall we!!! Tesco retail park so the press keep calling it does not actually belong to Tesco at all infact Tesco only own the land its sits on and its carpark. It does not own the road leading on and off or the ground on which all the other stores sit on of which you have failed to mention over the last week!
The retail park itself I believe is owned by the same people that own the bull ring so give them a shout about access yea! Tesco have repeatedly asked for planning permission for a seperate access road and been knocked back on all occasions. So shout at the council yea!
So lets look at the surrounding area when the snow fell. 2 hours from wellington to ketley is that Tesco's fault did anyone take tea and coffee to those folks sat in their cars??? Crash on the M54 did anyone take tea and coffee to those people stuck????? So back to Tesco did anyone happen to notice the staff trying to collect the trolleys in 3 inches of snow so the other customers could still complete there shopping? Mmmm just wondered. You say its not the staff but its Tesco well the staff are Tesco they are the people that were also stuck at work with sick kids and sick parents at home that they couldnt get back to either. They are the people that face the customers on a daily basis and get abused and sworn at because its snowing and people are stuck, well so where they. Stuck at work not getting paid but getting abused. Then you start telling people to demand refunds. LOL what about the people that were stuck outside MATALAN, ASDA, BOOTS, HOMEBASE, HOMEBARGAINS, SPORTSWORLD, Should they also come back to TESCO and blame them cause they where stuck also and demand a refund. Oh sorry where you stuck outside AMERICAN GOLF, MCDONALDS OR KFC. Did you go in any of them and demand free food or a set of clubs??? NO.

Tesco had no legal right to close access to a retail park that doesn't belong to them!
Tesco staff are not insured to be carpark marshalls! Oh sorry they would have had to have gone down to furrows island to clear the traffic there first to clear their carpark.
Tesco staff gave free tea and coffee away instore if you wanted some you should have got out your car and come and had some.
Believe it or not Tesco may be the largest retailer in the uk but as of yet they do not have access to god to stop the weather, of which this catastrophe was soley down to. So blame him yea!!
Are you aware of retail law and what staff can and cant do?? I very much doubt it! What you know is how to incite hysteria and blame Tesco soley because its the largest retailer in the uk and everyone likes to jump on the successful. You was stuck in the snow for a couple of hours booo hooo why dont you blog about people that are really suffering or the lack of goverment funds for the elderly that sit in freezing cold condition all winter not just 4 hours cause they cant afford heating! No you wont cause that doesn't make the news does it or theres nothing in it for your self gain. Quite frankly the only reason your continuing on about Tesco is cause its on everyones door step and it get you hits to your blog that I notice you also advertise on! Selfless YOU? no!. But the staff that worked tirlessly that day after there shifts had finished pushing stuck cars serving up tea and coffee they're the selfless ones.
So if you have all the answers like you seem to, write to the council and the retail park owners or quite frankly again simply shut up!

Tesco had no legal right to close access to a retail park that doesn’t belong to them!
No you wont cause that doesn’t make the news does it or theres nothing in it for your self gain. Quite frankly the only reason your continuing on about Tesco is cause its on everyones door step and it get you hits to your blog that I notice you also advertise on! Selfless YOU? no!. But the staff that worked tirlessly that day after there shifts had finished pushing stuck cars serving up tea and coffee they’re the selfless ones.
So if you have all the answers like you seem to, write to the council and the retail park owners or quite frankly again simply shut up!
